Vendor Snap . New Series . Absolutely In!

2016 . Vendor snap roses

We have known Michelle from Absolutely In! for almost a year. She (with the help of others) put together our incredible St. Louis Styled Shoot for The Rising Tide Society and it was amazing. We will post more about that shoot soon! Michelle has a huge heart for seeing creatives come together and encourage one another. She can be found rocking her LePen making all things modern and fabulous.

We sent Michelle some questions and she had the best answers.

Share a bit of the history of your business: Absolutely IN! was started six years ago when Ellen, a recovering lawyer, had dreamed of opening an event planning company and decided it was finally time to take the leap. With the support of her daughter-in-law, Alecia, and good friend, Teresa, they opened up Absolutely IN! Events, and we’ve been catering to the St. Louis community ever since!

Tell us a bit about your background: I attended James Madison University in Virginia, where I obtained my Bachelors Degree in Business Administration – Hospitality & Tourism Management. While there, I focused on event planning and management. After graduation, I moved out to St. Louis and started my career working for a non-profit and corporate event planner. Shortly after, I transitioned over to Absolutely IN! to pursue my passion of wedding planning. I haven’t looked back since!

Tell us about your experience in St. Louis: Overall, my experience here in St. Louis has been pretty incredible! As an outsider, I was a little worried about being able to fit into the industry, community, etc. However, I’ve found so many welcoming and inclusive people in this city that it made the transition much easier. Within the industry itself, I’ve made an amazing group of friends who support and encourage me along the way. It also gives me a group of people that I’m able to “talk shop” with, which is so important to business growth!

What are your favorite locations in St. Louis? Personal and professional. Personally, I’d have to say I love places like Castlewood and Queeny Park where my husband and I can take our pup on a walk and enjoy the outdoors. I also love all the breweries and amazing restaurants – Belgian beers and comfort food are my happy place! Professionally, I’d have to say that some of my favorite places would be the Contemporary Art Museum for it’s modern aesthetic, Silver Oaks Chateau mostly because it reminds me of Virginia’s wine country, and the Palladium because that’s where I got married and it holds a very special place in my heart!

What inspires you? Everything. I find inspiration in the day to day, my surroundings, architecture, things I see in magazines or read in books . My aesthetic is a mixture of modern and classic, effortless and timeless, organic and clean, so I definitely pull from all sides of the spectrum to find inspiration and stay inspired.

What are some misconceptions that clients have when working with an event planner? Some clients have this fear that an event planner will take over and they won’t have a say in their wedding day. When, in reality, an event planner should be able to enhance your ideas and help you create something that is meaningful, genuine and reflective of you as a couple.  An event planner is there to be your advocate and make sure that your voice is heard, even when you’re not present.

Do you have a favorite unique detail that a couple has used in their wedding/event? I love when couples let us run wild and do things that are a little different; those are the details that will make your wedding stand out from others! One of my favorite examples is one where the bride’s favorite drink is champagne and the groom’s favorite is scotch, so we created a Bubbles & Barrels theme. Everything down to the appetizers that are being served is centered around this theme and is such a genuine reflection of who they are as a couple.

Can you share a simple styling tip? I’m a firm believer that less is more. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, go back to basics. If something just isn’t clicking for you, never force it.

Thanks, Michelle! What type of vendors do you want to see on Vendor Snap?

I honestly had never thought about people fearing an event planner would take over their event! I find event planners so very helpful and just love working with them, that it never even occurred to me!
